Student Pastor

Position Purpose

The Student Pastor will provide spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and relational connection for the students of East Main Street Church of God. This position exists to create an environment where students feel genuinely cared for, connected to the church family, and encouraged to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Student Pastor will lead engaging student worship services, develop meaningful relationships with students and their families, and plan events and activities that create opportunities for engagement, discipleship, and spiritual growth.

Primary Responsibilities

Student Worship Services

  • Plan and lead regular student worship services that provide opportunities for Bible study, worship, prayer, engagement, and spiritual growth.
  • Create an atmosphere that is welcoming, engaging, and centered on Christ.
  • Teach and communicate biblical truths in a way that is relevant and understandable to students.
  • Encourage students to actively participate in worship, prayer, Scripture, and the life of the church.
  • Work with volunteers and other ministry leaders to provide a positive and organized student ministry experience.

Student Discipleship & Pastoral Care

  • Develop genuine, Christ-centered relationships with students.
  • Provide encouragement, prayer, and spiritual guidance as students navigate the challenges of adolescence.
  • Encourage students to develop personal habits of prayer, Bible study, worship, and Christian service.
  • Be attentive to the spiritual and relational needs of students and communicate significant concerns to the Lead Pastor and appropriate parents or guardians.
  • Foster an environment where students know they are valued, accepted, and cared for.

Events & Relationship Building

  • Plan and coordinate exciting, age-appropriate events and activities that build relationships and strengthen connections among students.
  • Create opportunities for students to invite friends and become connected to the student ministry.
  • Incorporate fellowship, recreation, service opportunities, retreats, trips, and other activities that complement the spiritual goals of the ministry.
  • Ensure that events and activities are planned responsibly, safely, and within the church’s established policies and procedures.

Family & Church Connection

  • Develop positive relationships with parents and families of students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding upcoming events, ministry opportunities, and significant student ministry needs.
  • Encourage students to see themselves as an important part of the larger church family.
  • Work collaboratively with the Lead Pastor and other ministry leaders to create opportunities for students to participate in the broader life of the church.

Volunteer & Ministry Leadership

  • Recruit, equip, encourage, and coordinate volunteers who serve in the student ministry.
  • Provide appropriate direction and support to student ministry volunteers.
  • Help ensure that volunteers understand their responsibilities and contribute to a safe, positive, and Christ-centered environment.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Lead Pastor regarding student ministry activities, needs, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Help establish and maintain a healthy, Christ-centered culture within the student ministry.
  • Carry out other ministry responsibilities as assigned by the Lead Pastor.

  • Must agree with our doctrinal beliefs.
  • Must be a member of East Main Street Church of God.
  • A genuine and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • A clear commitment to the authority of Scripture and the mission of the local church.
  • A heart for ministering to and caring for students.
  • Ability to communicate biblical truth in a way that connects with students.
  • Strong relational, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, volunteers, and church leadership.
  • Ability to create an engaging and welcoming environment for students.
  • Willingness to support and participate in the overall ministry and mission of East Main Street Church of God.

Spiritual & Ministry Expectations

The Student Pastor is expected to model a Christ-centered life and demonstrate integrity, humility, compassion, and a genuine love for students. The person serving in this role should view student ministry not simply as a weekly program, but as an opportunity to invest in the spiritual lives of young people and help them develop a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ.

To provide genuine care for students as they grow in their walk with God, while creating a welcoming environment where they can know Christ, build meaningful relationships, and become connected to the family of God.
