Children’s Pastor

Position Purpose

The Children’s Pastor will provide spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and relational connection for the children of East Main Street Church of God from Kindergarten through 5th Grade. This position exists to create an environment where children feel genuinely cared for, welcomed, and connected to the church family while being encouraged to develop a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Children’s Pastor will lead engaging children’s worship services, provide age-appropriate biblical teaching, develop meaningful relationships with children and their families, and plan events and activities that create opportunities for engagement, discipleship, and spiritual growth.

Primary Responsibilities

Children’s Worship Services

  • Plan and lead regular children’s worship services that provide opportunities for Bible study, worship, prayer, engagement, and spiritual growth.
  • Create an atmosphere that is welcoming, exciting, age-appropriate, and centered on Christ.
  • Teach and communicate biblical truths in ways that are understandable, engaging, and relevant to children in Kindergarten through 5th Grade.
  • Encourage children to actively participate in worship, prayer, Scripture, and the life of the church.
  • Work with volunteers and other ministry leaders to provide a positive, organized, and safe children’s ministry experience.

Children’s Discipleship & Pastoral Care

  • Develop genuine, Christ-centered relationships with children.
  • Encourage children to develop a personal relationship with Jesus and age-appropriate habits of prayer, Bible study, worship, and Christian service.
  • Provide encouragement, prayer, and spiritual guidance to children as they grow in their understanding of God and His Word.
  • Foster an environment where every child feels valued, accepted, known, and cared for.
  • Be attentive to the spiritual, emotional, and relational needs of children and communicate significant concerns to the Lead Pastor and appropriate parents or guardians.

Events & Relationship Building

  • Plan and coordinate exciting, age-appropriate events and activities that build relationships and strengthen connections among children.
  • Create opportunities for children to invite friends and become connected to the children’s ministry.
  • Incorporate fellowship, recreation, service opportunities, special programs, trips, and other activities that complement the spiritual goals of the ministry.
  • Ensure that events and activities are planned responsibly, safely, and within the church’s established policies and procedures.

Family & Church Connection

  • Develop positive and meaningful relationships with parents and families of children in the ministry.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding upcoming events, ministry opportunities, and significant children’s ministry needs.
  • Encourage families to grow together in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Help children understand that they are an important part of the larger church family.
  • Work collaboratively with the Lead Pastor and other ministry leaders to create opportunities for children and families to participate in the broader life of the church.

Volunteer & Ministry Leadership

  • Recruit, equip, encourage, and coordinate volunteers who serve in the children’s ministry.
  • Provide appropriate direction and support to children’s ministry volunteers.
  • Help ensure that volunteers understand their responsibilities and contribute to a safe, positive, and Christ-centered environment.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Lead Pastor regarding children’s ministry activities, needs, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Help establish and maintain a healthy, Christ-centered culture within the children’s ministry.
  • Carry out other ministry responsibilities as assigned by the Lead Pastor.

  • Must agree with our doctrinal beliefs.
  • Must be a member of East Main Street Church of God.
  • A genuine and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • A clear commitment to the authority of Scripture and the mission of the local church.
  • A heart for ministering to and caring for children.
  • Ability to communicate biblical truth in a way that connects with children.
  • Strong relational, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with children, parents, volunteers, and church leadership.
  • Ability to create an engaging, welcoming, and safe environment for children.
  • Willingness to support and participate in the overall ministry and mission of East Main Street Church of God.

Spiritual & Ministry Expectations

The Children’s Pastor is expected to model a Christ-centered life and demonstrate integrity, humility, compassion, patience, and a genuine love for children. The person serving in this role should view children’s ministry not simply as a weekly program, but as an opportunity to lay a spiritual foundation in the lives of children and help them develop a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ.
